Now you have a topic, a web site host and a program to upload it to the web, you need a domain name. These are the names that end in .com, .biz, .info or other extensions. I believe that the most important thing about naming your website is to refer to what your topic is in the website name. For instance, if you choose the topic of car repair ideas then the domain name can be something like:

www.easycarrepairs.com

If you are into training dogs try something like:

www. dogtrainingmadeeasy.com or .biz or .whatever.

There are hundreds of different ways to name a website domain. The biggest problem is finding a domain name that isn't taken. The domain names are actually rented (even though they call it owned) because you pay for them for a time period and have to renew it or someone else gets a shot to "buy" it for a certain amount of time. You can find a domain name through your web host provider and register it in your chosen name for you to use.

Make your domain easy to remember

You want to try to get a domain name that is easy to remember and related to the topic that your website is about. It would make no sense to have a website that is so long or so irrelevant that no one can remember it. To have a website about the 1978 New York Mets and call it www.joesfavoritesportsteamsofthe1978seaason.com would be a waste. Try to find something short and sweet like www.metsfan1978.com or newyorkmetsof1978.com. Check and see what domains are available and go from there but keep it on topic. Also, while it might be cool to see your name in a domain, that isn't what you are after if you want to make it the best and the most profitable. Unless you are a celebrity with name recognition, you want to refer to the website in a name. Almost every web site that I have seen that makes big money either already has name recognition or its name is closely related to the topic.

Using your web host to get a domain name
I always buy my domain names through  my web host. There are other domain name sellers on the internet but I like to keep everything in one basket so that I will know

easily when a domain needs renewed. Since I plan to eventually have dozens or maybe even hundreds of websites going, I want to make the domain issue a non issue. I can look at my web hosting account and see when domain renewals are due and decide if I want to keep the name or not. If a website is not doing well and I don't think I can get it to work out after a few years of creating it and tweaking it, I would probably let the name go and just focus on the sites that are bringing in money.  When you go to your host, they will have a domain manager or something along those lines so that you
can type in the domain name that you want to see if it is available. If it isn't, keep thinking it over and try to find one that makes sense.
